The Modern 3 Series
The modern BMW 3 Series actually began in 1975. The 3 Series was launched on May 2, 1975 with the introduction of the E21 line. This line stayed in production until 1983. The following year, BMW continued the 3 series by introducing the E30. The BMW E30 was produced until 1991, however, it was accompanied by the 325i and 325is in 1987.
BMW introduced a new design with the E36 in 1991. The E36 was nicknamed the "dolphin shape" by many BMW enthusiasts. The E46 was introduced to the world in 1999. Although the E46 touring and sedan were phased out in 2005, the E46 convertible and coupe remain favorites of BMW enthusiasts, and are still in production today.
