History of BMW
BMW was founded in October 1913 by a German man named Karl Friedrich Rapp. BMW, which was originally known as Bayerische Flugzeug-Werke, actually began as an aircraft engine manufacturer. From the very beginning, the company used the blue-and-white roundel as their logo. The logo not only alludes to the blue and white checkered flag of Bavaria, but also indicates the origin of BMW by symbolizing a spinning white propeller on a blue-sky background. This is still the same logo that BMW uses on all their products today.
Approximately ten years after the company was created, BMW transitioned out of the aircraft engine manufacturing field and produced their first motorcycle, the R32. Four years later, BMW began producing their first cars (BMW had bought the Dixi from the Dixi Company). Finally, by 1933, BMW began producing their own sport cars and sedans.
